However much we say about this flower, it is never enough, because of its beauty, its many varieties and its uses. Hundreds of years BC (before the birth of Jesus) roses were cultivated in China, and before that they had grown in East Asia for thousands of years; from there they spread throughout the world. Roses have become a good source of income for many countries, such as the Netherlands, and they have many other uses: they still play an important role in making dyes and rose water.
Number of species
There are 150 wild species and 30,000 cultivated varieties.
Habitat
The rose is believed to originate in China. Between 551 and 479 BC roses were grown in the imperial gardens there, and signs of their presence in Asia go back five thousand years.
